Baby Crib Only at Night

My daughter-in-law has a friend who is a nurse. She thinks everything she says is the way it has to be. The friend says the baby should only be put in the baby crib at night... and no other time. What a waste of not using the place the baby should want to sleep.

Has anyone ever hear of only putting the baby in the crib at night? Is their any merit in this comment?

Good Sleep Habits
by: Anonymous

For the first three or four months with my daughter, I would only put her in the crib at night. She wasn't yet on a set nap schedule, but was starting to sleep through the night.

I wanted her to learn that when she went in her crib it was night time and she was not going to be picked up after an hour or two of sleep. Once her night time routine was firmly in place and she was on a better nap schedule, I did start putting her in her crib during the day.

She is now 6 months old. She sleeps 12+ hours per night and takes two two-hour naps each day.

Baby in Crib

I think that the baby should be put in the crib throughout the day for their naps as well. The baby will soon associate the crib with sleep. So, at night when lying in the crib s/he will sleep instead of play.
