Baby Is Not Sleeping

by Milicent
(NYC)

My baby is not sleeping through the night yet. He is three months old + one week now.

There are some good nights when he sleeps 5 hours straight and then gets up about every two and a half hours to feed (I am breast feeding). But there are also bad nights (like the last two) when he gets up every hour!

Can you suggest anything that might help?

Could Baby be hungry?
by: Reena

My first child was blissfully sleeping through the night at age 5 days whereas my second child has given us countless sleepless nights where my mother-in-law, my husband and I would take turns to just sit and rock the baby. A few months after birth a sleep pattern did seem to emerge, though.

One thing that really helped was when she woke up in the night if I was visible and touchable, our daughter was more content. Her crib being right next to our bed really helped, and it was the rocking kind, so sometimes I would just rock her right back to sleep without picking her up.

And sometimes she was in bed with us, I think she just felt more warm and secure and then when she was fast asleep I would transfer her gently to her own bed.

If you baby is getting up every hour, could it be that he isn?t getting enough to eat? If he is old enough you may think of giving him something solid just before sleeping so that he is content for longer. Or you may think of supplementing with a bottle? (though I do know that there is nothing so convenient as breast feeding)

Good luck though!
