Baby Sleep Problem

by Marlene
(South Africa)

The absolute worst thing to a peaceful sleep is an unexpected baby sleep problem. Since 12 months my baby woke only once during the night around 03h00 in the morning for a bit of milk and then he will sleep until 6h00.

My baby is now 16 months old, but for the past month he wakes 3 to 4 times a night crying and screaming.

Nothing seems to calm him except a bottle of milk, but he actually drinks very little then.

What can I do to break this sleep problem and get him back to his old sleeping routine?

Could Be One Of These

Have you checked to see if the sleep problem is not the result of digestion issues causing him to wake? Just listen to him while he sleeps and check for bowel movements.

Sometimes as the diet changes it can cause too strong movements that make babies uncomfortable during the night when they are resting. Watch what you feed him at night.

Also, overstimulation can cause a bit of nightmares. Keep in mind that their imaginations take over as they start to understand the world better.

A psycologist friend once told me that reassurence can go a long way if done at the right time.

So, try to set a bed in the nursery for a few nights to calmly shh-shh the baby when you hear him begin to fuss - just to ensure he does not wake up.
