Baby Will Not Eat

by Jackie Wamapaba
(Uganda)

My 10 month old baby will not eat anything. She only wants to breastfeed and occasionally she eats some apple, fish or beans. Is there anything I can do to encourage her to eat?

Getting Baby To Eat
by: Anonymous

Probably one of the best ways I found for getting baby to eat is this: I made all of my baby's food at home. I would steam veggies in beef broth and put it all into a mixer and puree his food. I began to lessen the degree of mixing as he became better at chewing.

Now some babies (I've noticed) refuse to eat solids because they just can't get used to solids. They just don't enjoy the transition and sometimes feel, "so does this mean no more mommy milk?" that may be scary for them.

Here is a tip: go back to the very basics of starting solids. Deep steam the veggies you would like for your baby to eat, and then put it in the mixer, either with the left over water from the steamed veggies or with chicken or beef broth and fine blend it... puree it so it's real easy for baby to swallow... or mix with breast milk. Even let her have a go at feeding herself!

And when baby is done eating, then find a cozy spot and breast feed her. Letting her realize that mommy milk isn't going anywhere. Remember, it takes a lot of patience when it comes to feeding your baby! So hang in there!
