Baby Won't Eat For 2 Weeks

by Claudia Wolf
(Romania, Europa)

My baby won't eat for 2 weeks now. At first I was hoping that tomorrow everything will come to normal. She has never done this (she started with solid food from 6 months and now she is 10 months).

But here we are, 2 weeks after and she does the same thing: when she sees the spoon she turnes her head off or she is taking only 3-4 bites and that's all! Not to forget telling you that she does this on every kind of food... except milk (I am still breastfeeding her ) and she never cries as if she's hungry.

Is the milk and a little bit of food enough for her? Oh, one more thing: no tooth yet!

I am very worried and nervous because I don't know what to do anymore, if you have some suggestions, I THANK YOU for it!

First Seek Pediatrician Advice
by: Anonymous

It is best to first seek pediatrician advice though, if for no other reason to learn your baby is normal. Pooping and peeing and otherwise fine, there is most likely nothing to be concerned about.

If you don't have access to an advice nurse, see if you have A La Leche league in your area. They are an excellent source about nursing. A very handy book is
Baby 411
- it's well written and covers a wide range of baby questions. But most importantly first seek pediatrician advice.

Reduce Milk
by: Anonymous

I started to reduce milk by giving him cooled down boiled water from a beaker cup at his meal times and he ate more then. He was being lazy and filling himself up on milk as he knew he would have to work and chew his solid food. A simple change, but it worked!

Check It Out
by: Carol

Have you taken her to the doctor to check it out? My daughter had similar problem when she was about 8 months. She got upset during feeding time, but has no problem drinking milk or water. At that time she also had slight fever about 37.5C. So, we took her to the doctor and was told that she had an ulcer, but it was at the recovery stage.

We then realised what triggered all the fuss. Her ulcer was hurting her each time she swallowed solids, while liquids were not a problem.

In your case it might not ulcers but might be something that is hurting or irritating her throat. Have it checked out.

Get The Nutrients
by: Courtney K

Through breast milk she will get the nutrients she needs to be healthy. But as she gets a little older she will need more than just breast milk. I would give her just a little bit longer and see if she starts eating.

Try different things to get her to eat such as let her watch TV while eating or something like that.

As far as the part about having no teeth, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. You may also try starting her on regular milk. The doctors will tell you not to give babies under 12 months cows' milk, but it seems to be working for my 9 month old. She loves it. Just give it a try and if she does not start eating after say 1 week or so, ask your pediatrician!
