6 Baby Food Jar Craft Ideas For Fun & Profit

baby food jar craft ideas

baby sleep aids

I know what you're thinking! What about baby food jar craft ideas to put to use the several dozen empty food jars standing around at home?

Well, why not? Here are a few ideas to put those empty jar to good use.

Craft Idea #1

How to make baby building blocks

Are they plastic or glass? If plastic, paint the insides in different colors, acrylic paints work well, and then screw the tops back on and there you are... baby building blocks.

I suggest painting the insides because that way your baby cannot chew the paint off. If you are feeling really clever you could paint on numbers and letters or stick inside little animal stickers before painting them.

Craft Idea #2

Making an advent calendar

Another idea, whether the jars are glass or plastic, and which older children will also enjoy, is to turn them into an advent calendar.

You will need 25 jars. Paint them as before, but with Christmas symbols of holly, fir trees, angels and all the rest. Paint numbers on the lids and fill the jars with tiny treats, jelly beans, a biscuit and so on.

If you have children old enough this could be a family project, with each child painting a few jars.

Baby Food Jar Craft Idea #3

How to sell them at a winter craft sale for fun and profit

For a winter craft sale you could fill jars with enough hot chocolate mix for one mug and then top up the jar with mini marshmallows. There are many flavors available now - orange or mint flavored, Belgian chocolate and all the rest.

Cut some circles of bright cloth and fix in place with an elastic band. Stick on a label and there you are!

Baby Food Jar Craft Idea #4

How to make snow globes as gifts or for making a profit

Home made snow globes are another idea that can either be a family project or can be made for a craft sale.

Glue tiny pieces to the lid with glue. You could use aquarium sealant if you have it. Fill the jar with baby oil rather than water as the 'snow' will then fall more slowly. Add glitter or crushed egg shell to make snow and screw up tight.

The best shells are those that come from boiled eggs, placed in a plastic bag and then crushed with a rolling pin.

The really artistic can paint tiny scenes on to the rear of the jar. But you could also glue on scenes cut from last years Christmas cards.

Baby Food Jar Craft Idea #5

Save time and storage space by cheaply and effectively organizing your herbs

Another idea is a herb organizer.

Screw or glue the lids of jars to the underside of your kitchen shelf. Label the jar sand fill with herbs and spices. Screw in place until you need them. This beats my current method of having them all in a cupboard and having to move 8 jars, at least, every time I want the oregano or whatever.

In the garage or utility room the same idea means easy storage of screws, hooks, etc.

Baby Food Jar Craft Idea #6

Potpourri jars! Perfumed rooms for months to come

Another idea that can be used for craft fairs is to fill the jars with potpourri.

Cover the jars without their lids with lacy material or with paper doilies cut to size and held in place with a piece of cord or fine ribbon. They should perfume the room for months to come.

Now, with all these great ideas there is only one big warning... don't over feed your baby just to get the jars
