Listen to understand
Pay attention to your baby's cry and try to remember what he/she
wanted at the time. I have found that knowing what my baby wants, just by
understanding her cry really has eased the frustration I have with other kids.
My husband often ask me how I always know what she wants, so I explained each
cry to him. Now he too can solve her problems. Listen for tone differences, as
well as if they are talking while they are crying, if they sound in pain, etc.
What to do about colic
When that sweet, cuddly bundle of joy turns into a small
screaming tyrant, many parents become frustrated. Most often the underlying
cause of a baby’s constant crying is colic - a malady that is hard to explain.
Some medical experts think colic is caused by digestive
problems but others say it is simply due the baby adjusting to life outside the
mother’s womb. At any rate, experienced parents have shared tips to help get a
baby through the colic.
Rocking naturally soothes all babies. For that matter, any
kind of motion may help - that is why those baby swings are so popular. Many
parents take their children for a ride in their vehicle - no one really knows
why this works but it does. Some parents say music has helped calm the baby (and
the parents!).
Parents should
remember that if it is really colic, it will pass and your little one will soon
be that sweet bundle of joy again.
