Changed her sleeping pattern

by Sarah
(Glasgow)

My baby recently changed her sleeping pattern. Previously she was brilliant at sleeping! She hated to be swaddled or cuddled in so she would be placed in her cot and off she went 7pm-7am.

But now its awful! She will scream the minute I leave the room and will continue to do so for hours unless I go in and pick her up. Even when she had a cold or teething I might have been up a couple of times but it was never for long before she settled back down, and I never had to lift her. She has screamed now constantly for 2 months and for last 24hrs has had 8 hrs of sleep in total. She is an active baby and a healthy eater and has the same routine every night. What am I doing wrong? Anything I should be doing to help?

Sleep pattern changed
by: Anonymous

It sounds as if the sleep pattern changed. You did not say how old your baby is now, but it seems as though your baby realized rather late the joys of being soothed and cuddled to sleep. Also, she now probably does not like to have you out of her sight, meaning that you must be hanging around within sight until she drops off.

Consider that her sleep pattern changed so she needs less total amount of sleep. Try putting off bed time till a bit later. Give her time to tire out. Or you may want to cut out one of the day time naps so that she sleeps better at night.
