Does not stand

by Vanessa
(QLD, Australia)

My son is almost 10 months old (he was born 3 weeks premature) and does not stand on his own or with support. Every time his feet touch the ground he bounces! He has been doing this since he was about 5 months old. We bought him a stationary activity center (its a big car with a seat he puts his legs through and his feet touch the ground easily) to try and encourage him to stand, but he still keeps bouncing.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to help him support his own weight and not bounce as soon as his feet touch the floor? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Baby bouncing
by: Anonymous

I am no expert of course, but your baby bouncing does not sound like a problem. It sounds more as though your son is trying to figure out what exactly what to do with his legs and his feet. And that right now he is enjoying the bouncing. He will probably go on to the walking a little bit later.

Yet if you think that there is something unusual in his actions (after all you have seen it and not I) then you should consult a doctor so as to put your mind at rest.
