Fattening Gerber Baby Cereal?

by Debra Rasmussen

Can Gerber Baby Cereal be fattening? This question may be out of the norm, but neverheless, here goes... I am a 42 yr old female who loves your Gerber Single Grain Rice Cereal. I usually have 2 cup fulls a day. I mix it with half water and half fat free milk.

My question is that lately I have put on a few pounds and everyone is telling me that it is the baby food. They say it is for babies only and that is why I am gaining weight. When reading the nutrition label it leads me to believe it is not that fattening and therefor not the culprit.

I know this is strange, but I love it and don't want to give it up. Any comments or suggestions?

Gerber Cereal

Gerber Cereal is Wonderful! I like Gerber and use it for weight control.

A serving only provides 1 gram of sugar and no fat and lots of vitamins. I add a little skimmed milk and feel I am doing well with weight control. I do not think it is a ´fattening´ food.

I am also confident that it is better than the alternatives such as sugary cereal, donuts and cookies.

I drink a glass full every night... with soy milk. Mmmmmmmmmmm. And I am 55 year old :-)

Any Baby Food May Be Fattening.
by: Tim

No matter what you eat, as long as you eat too much of it, you will gain weight. So, any baby food may be fattening too.

This even goes for vegetables. If you eat enough vegetables (which is almost impossible) to satisfy your daily calorie needs and then exceed them, with nothing else consumed, you will gain weight if you do not balance it out with exercise.

Everybody has a calorie threshold they need for their body to maintain it's weight. If you go above this number, you will likely accumulate calories which will go towards weight gain. Every 3500 calories in excess of what you should will equal a pound of weight gain.

A calorie is a calorie is a calorie. However, calories are not all equal when it comes to nutrition. Some may be empty, while others may be loaded with nutrition that your body needs. Just be sure to eat healthy and eat how many calories your body needs, and not more.

Fattening Baby Cereal

I do not believe that the baby cereal would be fattening... it is for babies. However, it should be good for you! I could be mistaken, but I'm fairly sure I'm right.

One way of testing it, is to stop eating the baby cereal, keep the rest of your diet constant for a week or so and see if you lose any weight.

Then, depending on what you find, take it from there...

Hope that helps!
