Food Reaction?

by Jen
(York, Pa)

I received a call from our daycare center 2 weeks ago that my 7 month old was having a "severe allergic reaction" to something. For lunch that day she had sweet potatoes and bananas - both things she's had many times. According to the teachers, she got hives all over her face and through her hair but they went away quickly.

The doctor said to stay away from both foods for a few weeks and then try again. I mentioned that we had also tried blueberries the previous 2 nights but that she seemed fine - didn't know if it was related. They suggested staying away from blueberries as well just in case.

So, the following week all was well until the next Friday (exactly one week later). She developed a rash after eating but this time it wasn't as severe (no hives). That day she ate green beans (or peas, I can't remember which) and applesauce - again, both things she had eaten numerous times before. The night before we had started on something new - a pasta vegetable medley. Related?

Today I decided that I was going to test the waters. She ate sweet potatoes- twice - and she's fine. I'm completely baffled. I usually buy Beech Nut but on occasion use Gerber and sometimes use one of each. The doctor says it shouldn't matter which one I use and that they should be the same. Has anyone had this experience?
