Practical Uses For Glass Baby Food Jars
glass baby food jars
There must be a hundred uses for empty glass baby food jars - in fact,
I'm sure can quickly think of a few.
Herbs & Spices
A row of dried herbs and spices for instance. You can dry herbs from the
garden either naturally by tying in bunches and hanging in a dry place or by
placing in a very cool oven. You could also dry a few leaves in the
microwave and then crumble.
Label - the artistic could add a few drawings here and there. If you like
you could screw or glue the lids under a shelf at eye level and then just
fix the full jars underneath.
Cookery books are full of spice mixes that you can prepare ahead. These
would sell well at craft fairs too.

Try the Cajun Baby Bam mix or for a Christmas fair how about apple mulling
spice mix. Your local ethic grocer - whether Chinese, Indian or Turkish -
will be a good source of large packs of spices.
For craft fairs how about some mustards.
See here for honey mustard, mustard butter and mustard mayonnaise
recipes amongst others.
Ever considered using glass baby food jars for storing...
Buttons
How about button jars at the local thrift store (charity shop). Such
places often have items coming in that are not suitable for sale - but they
have buttons. Cut them off and store matching ones in each jar.
Stationery & Other Small Things
For a church sale you could buy stationery items in large numbers - paper
clips, elastic bands, tintacks. Divide these between several jars and sell
at a profit for a good cause.
Glue several lidless empty glass baby food jars together to make a holder
for pencils, pens etc on your desk. If you want to paint them first acrylics
are a good choice. This is a great craft idea for older children on a rainy
day, but don't let them loose with super glue or you will all end up in the
emergency room.
You could do the same with such things as bath crystals and salts, hair gel
or aloe vera cream.
How To Use When Traveling
Fill several jars with small amounts of shampoo, hand cream etc when you
are making a trip.
Using In Your Garage
My dad used to use old jars in the garage to sort out his various sizes
of screws, nuts , hooks and so on.
Hot To Decorate The Lids
How about decorating jar lids with salt dough. The recipe is 200ml (1/3
pint) water, 300g (10oz) plain flour, 300g (10oz) salt and 1 tablespoon of
vegetable oil. Bake your finished design at 180 oC (350 oF,
gas mark 4) before painting and gluing to the lid. Little girls will love
these for storing all their bits and pieces.
Are you running out of jars yet - don't worry... your baby will soon be
hungry again.
