Holds his head to one side

My 18 month old suddenly holds his head to one side when he just starts to walk. He never used to do this and it is really beginning to worry us. He does the same thing when he turns around in a circle.

Once he begins walking, he holds his head up straight. I'm concerned that this may be a developmental problem or something more serious. Words of advise would be great, since to see a pediatrician in our city takes 3-4 months on the waiting list...

Holds head to one side

There is a condition called Torticollis which means "twisted neck," and if a child has this condition, the head will be tilted to one side while the chin is turned to the other side. It is also sometimes called wryneck. Your baby does not seem to have this problem, since he rights his head stance once he starts to walk.

Maybe he just needs that little bit of a head cock sideways to get his balance right and into the right position for walking. This should sort itself out in a sometime as your child becomes a more proficient walker otherwise you could mention it to your doctor to get an earlier appointment.
