Infant Eating While Watching TV

by Suma
(India)

My question is one about my infant eating while watching TV. My son is 7.5months old and isn’t keen on eating. These days however I manage to get him to eat 3-4tsps of baby cereal whilst watching TV (3times a day). He watches music/dance channels or nursery rhymes keenly. And it is only during this time that I can manage to put the spoon into his mouth. After 10-15mins or so he usually is bored and doesn’t allow me to feed him any more.

I have heard that its not good to feed the baby while distracted but I really have no choice. I recently overheard another mother say that she doesn’t switch on the TV when her baby is awake and in the room.

Any views/advice on babies watching TV and tips on feeding my baby?

You are probably setting your child up to be a couch potato. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but you need to stop that right away. This early in life watching TV like that will most likely set a pattern you wouldn't want. He will most likely not develop patience or be content for long periods.

I suggest try feeding him in the park or outside where things are going on around him if it is a stimulation thing that seems to work. Try taking him to a store where they have a table and chairs or restaurant... anywhere where there are people might also help.
