Nappy rash is a common skin irritation in babies and toddlers. It is a dermatitis affecting the skin covered by a baby's nappy.
Nappy rash can be caused by any number of things including; skin irritation from wet and soiled nappies, nappy friction, detergents, soap, perfumes in wet wipes or any combination of these.
The best method of preventing nappy rash is by keeping your baby's skin as dry and clean as possible. As any mum would know this is an enormous task, increasingly so as your baby becomes an upwardly mobile toddler.
The best treatments I have come across are;
- Using disposable nappies. A good brand helps
- Increasing the frequency of nappy changes
- Using soft face cloths with olive oil to clean baby?s bottom
- Applying a good barrier cream at every nappy change
- Letting your child spend as much time as possible with no nappy on.
- Sunlight helps immensely
These all assisted with keeping nappy rash at bay with both my girls. My hope is that this will help you too.
Tip: Olive Oil (found at any chemist) is a miracle ointment for babies skin, and if you get it on your clothes, it is really easy to wash out.
