4 Easy Organic Baby Food Recipes For Busy Moms

4 Easy Organic Baby Food Recipes For Busy Moms

baby sleep aids

In most cases organic baby food recipes are not new - it is the same ingredients, but only using organic ingredients.

The definitions for these vary somewhat, but basically they are:

  • foods grown in conditions that are in harmony with the world & natural, and...
  • without using artificially produced chemicals

If you want to be absolutely certain that your child isn't receiving additives, whether deliberately or in the form of sprays on food, you can:

  • either grow your own ingredients - which is not as difficult as you might think even in a small space, or...
  • you can buy goods from a properly certified organic supplier e.g. in the U.S.A. this would mean the food has a U.S. Department of Agriculture certificate

A thing you ought to be thinking about is that while babies should not be overloaded with salt and sugar they need not be omitted totally.

A tiny pinch of salt will enhance flavor without causing harm and we need some salt if our bodies are to function.

My suggestion is to take any organic baby food recipe, make it up in largish batches and then divide into portions. Use one batch now and freeze the rest. And label well or your child may grow up with a liking for sweets and custard.

Here are a few very easy-to-make organic baby food recipes

Fruit and Oatmeal

  • 2 tablespoons of chopped fruit, cooked if necessary
  • ¼ cup of cottage cheese, fromage frais or yoghurt
  • ¼ cup of cooked fine oatmeal, and
  • if the fruit needs it, add 1 teaspoon of maple syrup

Simply mash all together. Bananas, strawberries and stewed plums, apple or pears all work very well.

This recipe works just as well for vegetables, just leave out the syrup.

Teething Biscuits recipe

  • 2 eggs beaten with 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence or almond flavoring
  • 2 1/4 cups of all purpose ( plain) flour

Mix all together to form a dough. Roll this between two pieces of waxed paper and then cut into shapes. Bake at 375 oF, Gas 4, 180 oC. for 20 minutes.

Lentil Veggie Mix

This will make 4 ice cube trays full

  • ½ lb, 250 grams of dry lentils
  • ½ lb, 250 grams of vegetables such as Swedes, carrots, broccoli
  • 1 small onion of two shallots, minced finely
  • 4 cups of water

I always boil lentils separately and then rinse before using as they can cause stomach gripes otherwise. Saute onion in small quantity of vegetable oil until translucent. Then mix in all the rest of the ingredients. Bring to the boil and then simmer until all are soft - this can take upwards of 20 minutes to 1 ½ hours depending upon type of lentils and vegetables used.

Lentils and Carrots recipe

  • 1/2 pound dry lentils (sorted for stones and rinsed)
  • 1/2 pound raw baby carrots
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 4 cups water

In a large saucepan, saute onion in small amount of olive oil until translucent. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until lentils are soft. Cool, then puree. Add more water for thinner consistency.

This organic baby food recipe fills roughly 4 ice cube trays.
