Solid Food Constipation

by Kat
(Canada)

Since I started my 1 year old daughter on solid foods, she has been constipated. I have tried the following without success:
- changed her diet
- giving her bran muffins
- lots of water to drink
- increasing fruits and veggie intake
- introducing prunes, and...
- everything else I can think of

None of these seem to work. Any suggestions to overcome this solid food constipation?

Maybe A Slow Solid Food Processor?
by: Aida

My pediatrician thinks your baby could be a bit slow to process solid foods. He suggests that you could take her off certain solids like:
- bread
- certain cereals like rice
- vegetables that bloat your stomach like brocoli and cabagge, and...
- try to avoid giving her bananas and raw apples too often

Also, remember that pinapple and orange juice are good sources of vitamin c and great for the digestive system. Yogurt is good, too.

Other than that he thinks you should not make too many sudden changes to her diet. Give her system a chance to catch up.

Personally, I give my daughter warm water in the morning before anything else. My grandma taught me that. I do it myself and I have never suffered constipation.

I also give it to my baby and she has had no problems (you could try 2 to 3 ounces). But whatever you do, give it a week or more to see the effect.
