Stimulate Intellectual Development

How does any parent stimulate intellectual development of a baby? I've heared and read that it can be done. But what are the best or easiest ways? Does this stimulation really give any long-term benefit? I'd like to hear your comments.

Smart Kid
by: Zachery Q.

A smart kid is fun to be with and loved by many. Intellectual capacity of a person maybe inherent, but it could be further developed.

Chances are that you've never heard of perchlorate. Perchlorate is actually a naturally occurring compound. It's actually a salt, but it shows up in small amounts in nature, usually in areas that are incredibly dry, as it is very soluble in water.

Recently higher amounts of Perchlorate have been showing up in drinking water and a few powdered baby formula brands. Perchlorate is used as a treatment for thyroid conditions, and introducing it in a system in which it wasn't needed can interfere with infant brain development.

The EPA is looking into some payday loans to clean up the levels of perchlorate in drinking water supplies.

Baby Intelligence Development
by: Dalene

One thing that almost no parent knows about baby intelligence development is that it can be increased. Contrary to popular belief, many scientific studies have shown that baby (and older children's intelligence) can be increased through planned stimulation. Although I've always read about these studies and have seen vast performance improvement in my therapy children, I've never had actual independent proof that it can be done... until now.

For the past 11.5 months I've seen a little 5 year old boy once (1 hour session) every 2 weeks. My therapy sessions were mostly restricted to exercises, games and giving him 'homework' to do in the off week. Apart from the therapy he had no other change in his day to day activities.

I should also add that just before he came to me, a psychologist tested his IQ. But when I started with his sessions I did not know that. During the past 3-4 months I could see that his skills improved noticeably, but I could never really quantify the improvement (nor did I have the intention to do that). But about 10 days ago, after my 11.5 months therapy sessions his mom took this boy for another potential test to a different psychologist. His IQ increased by 15 points!

Now I'm definitely not claiming that the increase was the direct result of my therapy sessions, but rather a combination of a few deliberate actions by a number of people. What is interesting though is that this boy is autistic.

OK, coming back to intelligence stimulation in babies.

A few brain development specialists discovered that there is a direct link between baby mobility and brain development... of course, the better the mobility the more the brain development. One of the important findings is that the physical condition of your baby is foremost to brain development and formation of learning potential.

Many years ago people believed that developing a child's physical skills primarily stressed muscular development rather than brain development. Through research we now know that your baby's physical development stimulates brain development.

It has been stated by child researchers that a child will have a greater brain capacity when his or her physical development is stimulated and encouraged. They furthermore state that because the body and brain work together, a baby who is on a physical stimulation program will have greater brain capacity than one who is not.

So, how can you stimulate baby intelligence development? This is not a simple answer and there are many correct answers. But one of the very basic, proven ways is to ensure your baby?s physical development is superb. Stated differently, start by ensuring your baby keeps fairly closely to the baby milestone targets. That is also one of the main reasons why I wrote the Baby Milestone Guide... to share a few tips, ideas and techniques for ensuring this basic baby development.

V-Smile Baby
by: Courtney K

I've had good success with V-Smile Baby. They have special toys that are designed to help with brain development. I am getting my little one a V-smile baby for Christmas. It teaches babies stuff like numbers, letters, animal sounds, fruits, veggies, etc. There may be other toys out there that can help stimulate intellectual development. But as for doing it fast, I am not sure there is a way that it can be done. I believe a baby can only learn as fast as the brain will let it. Hope it helps!
