Tiny Red Bumps Rash

by Gretchen

Bumps on back -- hard to get in focus

Bumps on back -- hard to get in focus

My 20 month old woke yesterday with tiny red bumps ALL OVER her trunk area. They were slightly raised and spotted like a leopard (or more close together even). She doesn't seem to be bothered by it.

I called the doctor and they said to see if they spread or if she has a fever to bring her in. No fever. But it spread to her legs and neck/cheeks.

I took her in to the doctor and he said it could be a reaction to the amoxycillin she was on for her ear infection (1st one ever so first time with the drug). He said her ears were fine so to stop the amoxycillin and see. And to try Benadryl.

She had some Benadryl last night, and this morning, her bumps are more splotchy and all over her cheeks - it looks awful.

Different things she had to eat: pre-packaged stew thing with the "seasoning packet" that I debated about putting in there. She's not on a restrictive diet and eats basically anything we eat.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Baby red bumps

Interesting to see this page.

My 14 month old had this similar rash about 3 months ago on a different situation: with fever after taking the second dose of amoxicillin for an ear infection (second time using amoxicillin). But I did not stop the medicine. And it just disappeared after using Aveeno bath.

Now, at 14 months old, she doesn't have a fever or anything wrong. She is herself, has a runny nose for a few days, and this little red bumps (sometimes forming circle clusters) began in her right leg.

After 2 days, it seemed to get better (less reddish, more dry), but the little bumps appeared in her elbow and part of her back.

4 Days later, still there, and some in her stomach. It seems to be heat related. Since there is no fever and she is not scratching, the doctor says is not necessary to come. Just keep it clean, dry and avoid lotions.

Echovirus
by: Sammy's mom

My 13 month old daughter had the same thing and we took her to the doctor. It was said that it is ECHOVIRUS which is highly contagious in children. And apparently there is no medication for it and it will go away in about 14 to 16 days. Babies can get it from feces and saliva from other children and objects/toys.

Leg Bumps

I daughter is having the same leg bumps. We have not introduced any new foods, changed her soap or gave her any new medications.

We went to the doctor who said it was a contact allergy. But we haven't been any place new.

So we were started on an over counter cortizone for 2-3 days. That did nothing. She then prescibred a mometasone furoate cream (0.1%) for 5 days. Today is 5 days and that did pretty much nothing, except that today it started spreading to her other leg.

It has been now about 2 weeks since I first saw yhe leg bumps. I will let you know what the doctor says.

Red Bumbs All Over
by: Anonymous

My 16 month daughter has the same problem. But she was not having medication and no fever as happens in some viral infection.

I think it is often called false measles. Earlier when she was 6 she faced the same problem, but that time she had fever and a flu like condition. I didn't visit any doctor, as we know there is no medication for this.

The precautions are: keep him dry. You can apply cornstarch powder or calamine lotion. Give him plenty of fluids. The room should be very clean and mildly lit(darkness is preferred). The baby should not go outdoors if there is bright light. He should be isolated from others except whomever is takin care of him.

If the fever is not controlled, then visit the doctor, but donīt give him any analgesics and antibiotics. The rash will eventually subside in 4-7 days.

At this stage Iīm not giving any baths, but only wiping her with aloevera wipes and changing her clothing frequently as the weather is little humid, giving her fluids, avoiding salt, keeping away from bright light.

Little Bumps

My 14-month old son has the exact same little bumps, mostly on his back and stomach but a few on his face and arms. The weather is warm and I noticed them tonight when I got him undressed for his nighttime bath. I just did some quick research and it looks like it might be a kind of heat rash called miliaria rubra -- the ones of the 7 month old look like my son's, as do the bumps in your daughter's picture). I'm going to call my pediatrician tomorrow to let him know just in case. But we've not had any antibiotics or new foods... I'll let you know if it gets worse or what happens.

Little Red Bumps
by: E.Mackall

My son is 12mon and he started have little red bumps on his forehead. I really didn't pay no mind to it because it didn't look that bad to me. I thought really it was just regular small bumps, but after 4 days it spread into a skin rash of some type and is formed into a circular shape the size of a nickel.

I went to the doctor and he gave me some type of cream medicine for it called nystatin 'something'. He said maybe something he was allergic to caused this reaction. The creamer cleared the center of the little red bumps, but not the outside.

So it was basically spreading it even more. Only thing is, now it was slightly bigger than a quarter. I also found little red bumps all over his leg and stomach.

I then went back and the same doctor who told me it looked like a ringworm and prescribed me a cream called Clotrimazole. I tried it starting yesterday and this morning the little red bumps spread all over his back and to his butt.

I don't know what this is, but I need to call my son's pediatrician before things get even worse. I don't want his small red little bumps turn spread into a rash like the one on his forehead.

It's funny that I came across this, because the same thing is happening to my daughter right now! We gave her amox. for the first time for an ear infection and she now has small red bumps over her chest, back, neck, and face. I assumed it was an allergic reaction to the amox. so I took her off and am just waiting. I am trying Zyrtec instead, we'll see if it works. The doctor prescribed another medicine for her ear infection instead, but I'm nervous to use it.

Tiny Red Bumps

My little brother and mom have the same tiny red bumps. It started behind my little brothers ears then it spread up to his forehead and down his neck. It's oily and raised. He says it doesn't itch. It's bright redish pink. My mom says the same. My brother is 10 and has had it for 2 days, my mom is 43 and has had it for 1 day. Does anyone have any ideas? I've been looking on the web for hours. I've been looking at pictures and there's nothing. The picture of the little girl up there has a rash VERY similar. So please comment on this.

Red Bumps Rash Too

My 4 month old had the tiny red bumps rash too. They come and go, but hers got better when I used bubbles and Aveeno oatmeal bath a few times a week and lotioned her up very well every day.

Baby Rash

It's very hard to determine what this baby rash is! But you could try some Cortaid and see if it helps. I would certainly avoid any lotions for now. Aveeno has some good products for bathing you can certainly check out. I would be inclined to start looking at nutrition, or heat? Good luck.
